B
TITLE: All Crosses:
MATERIALS: wood, hardboard
DIMENSIONS: 2100 x 1400 mm

TITLE: Taumaha (heavy)
ARTIST: Ian Charlton
REFLECTIVE: Christ on his final journey to be crucified, collapses under the weight of his cross. That moment is reflective of my struggle with the illness depression – often an overwhelming weight that crushes me.
In this unpleasant place I am discovering what it means to be connected in brotherhood with Christ. In my darkest time He is already there. He always has been and always will be.
TITLE: Skull Hill
ARTIST: Emily Hill
REFLECTIVE: Golgotha (Hb) and Calvary (Gk) translated Skull Hill was Jesus’ pilgrimage destination of death. The church Christ’s body is not in the X-ray- it is yet to exist and work emphasises the head/skull as the depiction of Christ’s emptiness. He bore the pain and agony of all of humanity without any painkillers/myrhh.
TITLE: What is Worth Living for?
ARTIST: Annika Hinze
REFLECTIVE: When Jesus took up his cross, it as not because he wanted to die for his faith – but because he needed to make a statement. And it transformed him and others. What shape does your cross have?
TITLE: Even the Wood Weeps
ARTIST: Amanda Watson
REFLECTIVE: Who am I that He would do this to Himself for me, and you? If only I was there in His time here on earth, I would have watched from the crowd as He carried His cross, I would have stepped out and joined in His ridicule and taken some of the weight of the wood that was going to see Him to His death. Or would I have?
TITLE: Clinging to the Cross
ARTIST: Mara Berzins, Liz Downing
REFLECTIVE: Offering hope to bring the death, to death.
TITLE: Through the Cross
ARTIST: Sarah Mundy
REFLECTIVE: Jesus stumbled as he carried that cross: how strange to see him fall as anyone does who cannot go on. Yet he rose again in order to give risen grace to those who fall under the weight of the cross they bear

This ice blocks were dripping after I had taken a couple of steps – and my fingers froze. Great use of another sense – very reflective I thought – asking those questions we dont usually ask ourselves while we live – all the artists here gave a little something of themselves I thought
